We were born out of a determination to make the many types and strains of Betta more available and affordable to Canadians.

 History

~During volunteer work at a large petstore, I was appalled at the condition of the Betta available for sale. The way in which they were shipped and presented for sale, in tiny plastic cups,  made me angry. I decided that it did not have to be this way, and that a better bred, and raised, healthier, younger, and more colourful Betta could be made available to Canadians.

I had been purchasing Betta from overseas for some time privately, and I went to work using my contacts primarily in Thailand, to develop a way to bring over enough Betta to reduce costs and make them a reasonable price here.

Thus began,  "Dee Mark Betta Canada". "Dee Mark" is a Thai phrase meaning, 'Well Done!', 'Good Job!', 'Excellant!', etc.

So relax and enjoy the results of our efforts, and experience a world of Betta colour and variety, never before available here in Canada!

My First contact with Katherine was when I enquired about a fish that I saw on an auction.  Katherine gave me all the details and then told me that she had a little guy in her personal collection that she would part with for about a quarter of the price. I thought for some time and after several e-mails I decided to get her personal Turquoise Green  Butterfly Half moon, (sorry Katherine, but he does love his underwater garden).  By the time I received him, he was being accompanied by two other Half Moons ( my favourites). It wasn't long after that I expanded my family even more. Katherine and I joked that I had my own 'hold' shelf as my collection grew and grew. After a mere 14 months of keeping bettas and a promise of only one in a two gallon tank, yeah right! You guessed it! I now have 14 bettas in 10 tanks ranging from holding tanks to a large tank complete with 8 females. These fish all  have such attitudes! Katherine's bettas all have such vim and vigor I am afraid they will knock themselves out! My gals and guys flare continually when not hiding in a forest of real plants or 'chillin' in their hideouts. All of the bettas I have, many as a result of special orders, have more personality than others I have had, and have given me endless hours of enjoyment. Getting fantastic fish is great but, the best for me is her desire to match my personality and desires for rare colours, quirky, or unusual finnage, or the very hard to find, with one or more phenomenal fish. I can't wait to get more. I now tend to tell Katherine to, 'send me what you think I will like.' She has never let me down and her choices are extra special to me. BTW, if you see that special fish, you might just want to get it right away because they might just be heading my way,...,  certain ones you just have to have. Be aware though, that the ones on the Dee Mark Betta Canada site are not the only little gems that Katherine has. All you have to do is ask and give her as much information as you can about what you like, want, and wish for, (betta wise that is). The time and energy that you and Katherine spend picking that special fish is so well worth the effort !!! Enjoy!
